Where do I even start! Going through Canine Co-Pilots has been one of the best things I could have ever done for myself and for my dog. After losing our old dog to bone cancer while I was pregnant, the opportunity came up for us to adopt a puppy from the same breeder. My husband and I both went back and fourth because the timing was awful, but not having a dog was unbearable so we just went for it... and boy did Denny give us a run for our money. We didn't expect Denny to be exactly like our old dog but Denny was something else. He would stair at me and just bark constantly, pull me all over the place on leash, destroy everything, jump on people you name it. He could care less what I did, it was Dennys world and I was just in it.
Well my neighbor came over one afternoon for a visit and after Denny pulled his barking non stop business on her, so bad that we couldn't even have a conversation, she recommended co-pilots. I've never been more embarrassed, we'd never had a dog behave so badly but I was absolutely desperate. I had a baby coming in 2 months and a dog I couldn't handle.
After going through a course with them and then attending training club I was able to see and learn what I was doing wrong and how to properly work with him. I now have the best trained dog I've ever had. I can take him for walks while pushing our daughter in her stroller, he's respectful, confident and I can honestly say I have the perfect family dog for our daughter to grow up with.
Jeff and Anna have become true friends I know I can count on for anything. They never judged me for having this crazy dog who I couldn't train, just helped me to be the best I could be for Denny, and him for me. People comment all the time when we go places how well behaved he is and I have to remind myself that he's not some crazy dog anymore, he's my co-pilot.
Good afternoon, I hope this helps in using Lulus and our experience as a word of mouth reference. It's a long one, feel free to shorten it if you like. Thank you!
Lulu was found tied to a fence in the deepest parts of Detroit, having more then likely been tied up in a yard. With her never obviously being in a house, this also came with a unknown history. We learned pretty quickly that she would definitely require more training then we could handle without guidance.
As we started searching for training and trainers, we realized that most were structured as a big brick and morter, one size fits all style. They seem to all be the same as in they have one training style for every dog that comes into there facilities, making the dog essentially just another number. Most of them coming home with a host of issues still, and little to no personality left. Then we found Canine Co-pilots Facebook page and YouTube channel, and we knew that we had to check them out.
When we arrived for Lulus evaluation a host of our concerns were addressed. The biggest one was how are we going to handle her dog reactivity. We were explained a clear and taylor made training plan just for her. It was also noted that her personality will still be the same just with manners now. It was clear she needed help with her reactivity but she was also mannerless. When we dropped her off for her Board and Train, we went over her training plan again and any questions or concerns we had were clearly addressed. Every week we were updated with pictures, videos of her progress, and videos of the "why, tools, and what to do" with everything clearly explained. We came twice for in person training lessons, they were great to come and be involved with her training and us getting our training for when she comes home.
When Lulu was dropped off at home the issues that we had at home, such as not being able to walk on a leash because of neighbor dogs, we're addressed. We learned how to use the tools for her training at the "at home" setting. With much practice her dog reactivity gets less and less. She would try to essentially fight the dogs next door through the wood fence, I can now leave her in the backyard with the confidence that she won't try to fight at the fence. Her recall was also a issue, she has no issue anymore. Lulu was recently able to go on not one, but two camping trips where dogs walked in our camp area, we all knew how to handle it and Lulu had the training that was instilled in her by Canine Co-Pilots to not have a reaction, these trips with Lulu would of never even been thought of without there guidance and expertise.
Without Canine Co-Pilots being a blessing in our life and Lulus savoirs it would be chaos and challenging everyday, instead they gave all of us the tools and knowledge to make it possible to do the things we never though we're possible. We will internally be forever greatful for changing all our lives!
